History, vision and values
Since 1986, women have been actively engaged in the fight against male intimate partner violence in the Gaspé Peninsula's MRC Avignon and MRC de Bonaventure. L'Émergence is continually building to offer women who have been abused in a conjugal context and their children a range of specialised services that meet the many emerging needs.

Formation of a provisional committee for the organisation of services offered to victims of male intimate partner violence
1989
Incorporation of the Collective d’action contre la violence faite aux femmes de la Baie-des-Chaleurs
1991
Opening of the first shelter with a capacity of seven places
1994
Creation of the Maison d’hébergement L’Émergence
1992-1996
L'Émergence's residential services are suspended on several occasions due to a lack of sufficient income
1996
Allocation of recurrent funding from the Régie régionale de la santé et des services sociaux
1997
The resource becomes the Maison d’aide et d’hébergement L’Émergence
2005
Opening of Mary Grace House, a second-stage resource (11 transitional and secure units)

L’Émergence provides dynamic regional leadership in the fight against male intimate partner violence.
It conducts awareness-raising and prevention activities to promote better knowledge of this thorny issue and of existing services.
It works in partnership with organisations and institutions concerned with male intimate partner violence.
It plays an active role in setting up referral mechanisms, inter-sectoral collaboration and innovative practices to serve its clients and the community.
